In this course you learn to develop RESTful web services and how to use it based on Java technology. RESTful web services is being used more and more instead of SOAP web services and are excellent for providing API’s on the internet. Despite that the concepts behind RESTfulweb services look simple, but to implement good services is not simple. In this course you learn to do this the right way. You learn to know the concepts behind REST and the Resource Oriented Architecture, and you learn what the pros and cons of these technology are. You not only learn to implement the simple services, but also the more complex examples are attended to. Important matters like security and distribute transactions are also extensively attended to. AX-RS is a new API on the Java EE platform and is meant for the implementation of RESTful web services. We attend to this API extensively. We also attend to alternative frameworks, and extensively to the client-side. You learn for example to work on a low level HTTP in Java, to offer your own client libraries and to implement clients using JavaScript. Also we look at several known services of, for example Google and Amazon to get another perspective on the possibilities. The course has a practical inset, also theory is directly converted into working code with labs.
